An Accidental Discovery!

Penicillin, saccharin, coke, post-its - what do they all have in common with today's post? - They were all discovered by accident!

I was asked by a customer to come up with a couple of suggestions for invitations for her Winter Wonderland themed wedding.  The colour scheme is midnight blue, plum and silver.  As she had two enclosures I came up with the idea of a two pocket invitation - but what colour to print the words on?  White was too harsh so I decided to try printing onto our Amuse Studio silver shimmer cardstock.  When it came of the printer it looked beautiful, however, as I stamped the snowflakes (very carefully to avoid smudging the images) I managed to smear the printed words, it occurred to me that if the ink was wet enough to smear, just maybe I could put embossing powder on it and heat set.  It works perfectly, and looks really, really professional and expensive!

It was really difficult to take a picture with all the shimmer going on - but here is a close up of the embossed print.

(and just in case you were wondering, here is the finished article

I don't know if this will work with all printers (mine is a Lexmark Pinnacle Pro901), but this is what I did:

1.  Set up word document with 4 to the page

2.  Dust entire silver shimmer sheet with anti static pad and insert in printer (silver down)

3.  Printing one page at a time, print and dust with clear embossing powder

4.  Heat set

Would you like me to help you design ( & / or make) your wedding invitations (or indeed, any event)?  Why not drop me an email, I would love to help.

All of the supplies for this card are from Amuse Studio and are available from my online store here
